About Me (biography and organization description)
Mr. Harsha Wijayawardhana is a Biochemist turned Information and Communication Technology consultant with more than ten years experience in hardcore ICT. He has worked as a consultant at University of Colombo School of Computing for the last nine years.
He is also a director of .lk (ccTLD) in Sri Lanka. As a consultant to UCSC, Mr. Wijayawardhana is involved in major Government ICT projects. He designed and implemented major government networks such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Information Department of Sri Lanka as well as PRIU (Policy Research Information Unit of Presidential Secretariat).
He designed and implemented network of Kothmale Internet Project in the latter part of 1999. He is involved in UNICODE Sinhala technology Research in Sri Lanka and serves on major language committees of ICTA (apex ICT body in Sri Lanka) which is involved in implementing UNICODE standard in Sri Lanka. He was a member of committee which was involved in Standardization of SINHALA SLSI 1134.
He is a member of several steering committees such PAN LOCALIZATION project and IDRC funded Virtual Village Project, www.v-village.lk . He is the Deputy Coordinator of the Sri Lankan component of the PAN LOCALIZATION project which is involved in Localization of eight countries in Asia: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afganistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos. Latest comer to this project is the India.
He was responsible of building Software Development Unit of University of Colombo School of Computing from ground up. At present, SDU has more than eight full time programmers and Student trainees, which is at present involved in major government computerization projects and Research and Development.
He is also involved in FOSS in Sri Lanka and represented UCSC and Sri Lanka in many Open Source conferences such as AOSS.
He has actively involved in Bioinformatics at University of Colombo. He designed and implemented fiber network of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and is one of the founding members of Bioinformatics Research group.
He designed and implemented secure Election Commissioner’s network for dissemination of Election results for all the elections which were held since 1999. He designed and his team at SDU implemented the main software which was used for General Election 2001, 2004 and Presidential Election 2005.
He had been involved in several Telecenter projects of Sri Lanka and has more than Nine years experience in providing technology to Rural telecenters in Sri Lanka. UCSC is the technology provider for SARVODAYA, which is one of the main NGOS in Sri Lanka.
He programs in Python,PHP, C/C++ , .net languages such as VB.net and C#. He had extensively used DBMS such as Postgres,MySQL MSSQL, ORACLE and INFORMIX. He works with CISCO routers and had built network with Fiber, Wi-Fi, CDMA and is at present tries rural ad-hoc networks with Bluetooth
