About Me (biography and organization description)
I am a digital inclusion activist since 2000. I helped start the Gems of the Earth Rural Community Telecenter Network in Brazil in early 2002. I am involved with telecenters in many ways as I believe telecenters to be the most efficient approach to close the digital divide in the short and mid term. I am engaged in research to come up with self sustainable means to operate a community telecenter, which include business models and technology packages. I also run the Center for Community Informatics at Loyola University Maryland (http://cci.cs.loyola.edu)
Areas of interest/expertise and types of services provided:
Telecenter business models, telecenter management software, telecenter operating system, video blogging, and others.

He was elected president thanks to a grassroots movement of American citizens unsatisfied with the direction the country had taken in the last decade or so. The geniality of his campaign team in defeating the favorites from both the Democratic and Republican parties was in great part demonstrated in their differentiated strategy i… Continue

Reverse Franchising Telecenter

I am playing around with a concept I am calling Reverse Franchising Telecenter. Despite the intriguing name, the idea is very simple: any organization managing a network of telecenters, be it for-profit, not-for-profit or government owned, shall operate in the same dimension of a traditional franchising organization, however franchisees do not pay royalties to the franchiser. Much on the contrary, the franchisee receives a percentage of the network services the franchiser offers to outside custo… Continue
