I am seeking some members of this community who would be interested in collaborating on a global challenge to create the Sustainable Telecenter. I am proud to be partnering with the
Global Challenge Award and to add Sustaining Telecenters as a challenge that needs to be addressed and recognized.
Our strategy is to leverage the immersive internet--virtual worlds and web 2.0--for facilitating innovation and entrepreneurs…

A recent article in
3DTLC-- 3D Training, Learning and Collaboration reported:
“Lauren Papworth, a social networking strategist, told the Australian Tourism Futures conference that travelers will increasingly use virtual worlds to help plan their next vacation according to the Brisbane Times. The talk was targeted at the Australian tourism community, but has relevance to the…

This is an excellent example of an emergent use of technology and attitude waiting for the BoP to get on board:
From Inventor Shawn Frayne
from :http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/010063.html
"The opinion I have, and the opinion of the others that I work with, is that there’s a huge untapped brain resource in developing countries. When designers or inventors have a different set of constraints, and they’re clever, there’s going to be great inventions and innovations that come out of those…

There has been some interesting discussions lately about Human Computer Interaction. After all, isn’t that what much of ICT is? Or is it? Another way to think about it is ‘computer augmented interaction.’ This is where the virtual, the electronic, merge and begin a dialogue effecting us as we effect our created world. No place is this as profound and powerful as in the area of design. The steps from dreaming and imagination, to rendering and drawing, to inhabiting in 3 dimensions, and then innov…

Here is a project I am working on, and it came up with an interesting take on creating a knowledge economy. What is the value Proposition in a Knowledge Economy? You could call it a "Teacher/Learner Economy." Simply stated the drive to gain good employment as a Teacher/Facilitator of 21st Literacy's will help pay for the Teachers/facilitators that will be needed. This is scaled up through virtual eLearning and ubiquitous free wireless broadband and low cost, low wattage wireless computers. The c…

There is an urgent need to transform our educational ecosystems and address the rapid transformations occurring in our world, especially the crisis confronting our survival. Are these needs linked and can we address them together? Educators around the globe are discovering and embracing virtual worlds, such as Second Life, for immersing their students and reinvigorating their pedagogy with 21st Century Literacy’s and Learning Skills--But how do we make our classrooms immersive? What will it look…

As part of a project that I am engaged in with another member of this network--Anil Jaggi-- we would like to invite interested individuals, Telecenters, instructors and students to join us in
GlobeNet Community TeleCenters 4 Emergence
Yes, it is another ning. We have no intention of taking away energy or aggregated collaboration from this ning. My hope is to summarize and continue to interrelate the two as much as possible and as appropriate.
Briefly,…

In the paradigm shift occurring in education--and every other aspect of our society--the role of the teacher is also changing. The Instructor or teacher is becoming the Facilitator. This requires a 'letting go' of the monopoly of power in the classroom. This change in posture parallels the emergent web 2.0 environment, where a pluralistic definition of knowledge and truth is occurring. Knowledge is shared and contributed by a variety of participants, each informing the others until an consensus…

These comments are meant to be prompts more than anything else. For the special group in this ning, I hope it gets us thinking and coming up with some discussion and ideas about alternative approaches. I am no expert and do not have first hand knowledge of CMC's--but draw on my 20 years of blended teaching experience along with the Creative Economy ideas and experience I do have.
--Fee for services. These should not be charged to the users of the CMC's/Telecenters (I'll use these terms intercha…

First of all I have to say that I am very humbled and amazed at the sophistication and advanced thinking and networking occurring here. I do not work at a Telecenter. With 20 years of experience of working in a blended learning environment I began to see the creativity of my students increase. Emergence is the goal. I know of many "Incubators" for entrepreneurial ideas--which presupposes ideas from an environment which nurtures creativity and innovation--but very few options on how to enable the…
